OMSI to blast into Sunridge Middle School Oct. 16
Sixth grade students at Sunridge Middle School are preparing for what’s sure to be an explosive assembly on Tuesday, Oct. 16, when the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) brings its “React-O-Blast” program to Pendleton.
At the hour-long 1:30 p.m. assembly in the school Commons, students will have the opportunity to help OMSI staff conduct experiments that vividly demonstrate the predictable, and sometimes unpredictable, reactions of matter – including some that have explosive results. Topics include the nature of chemical reactions, physical versus chemical changes, and safety.
The idea behind the traveling OMSI assemblies is to bring the wonders of science from OMSI to students all around the state who might not be able to make it to the Portland museum.
Last year, OMSI brought its “Altered States” assembly to Sunridge to explore how solids, liquids and gases change from one state of matter to another.
